I visited my dad in Detroit when I was a kid in the late 70's. I used to come up to visit him during the summer. I lived down south in Mississippi so I was really visiting the BIG CITY! I remember the trips to Bell Isle and the Ren Cen. My first major league baseball game was Tigers Vs Yankees at Tiger Stadium and I took a picture of Reggie Jackson in the on deck circle with an old Kodak camera. I still have that picture somewhere.

By the time I moved to Detroit to stay with my dad, he had relocated to the suburbs. Rochester. I finished junior and senior high school, went on to college at CMU and graduated in '93.

I have lived in the city on at least 5 different occasions. East and West side. I have worked for at least two Detroit radio stations. The city has been good to me. It's rich in culture, history, and there's plenty of trouble to be found in the D and you don't have to go far to look for it.

Last time I lived there was back in 2004. I moved to Alaska in 2007 and returned to Michigan 2017. I have been in Lansing for 3 years now. And I visit home (Detroit) every now and then. I legit stay away because there are too many personal demons and temptations there. But I love the city.

I love getting down for a game at Ford Field and tailgating in Eastern Market. Or a show at LCA. I have been to Comerica Park but never for a game. Now across the street at The Fillmore, that place has history with me.

It used to be The State Theater and I used to broadcast live for a radio station on Saturday nights back when radio stations did live dance parties on location.

They changed the name a while back. And they've changed a lot of downtown Detroit. I used to do a show live from this place too.

It's called Bleu. And the stories I could tell you about this place.

This past weekend after visiting The Henry Ford and checking out their Marvel exhibit, I stopped by downtown to legit go get my glasses adjusted and be amazed at the Warby Parker store.

There are a lot of new stores, restaurants, bars, eateries, and HOTELS downtown. I put together a gallery of what the NEW downtown Detroit looks like now. So the next time you're there and doing some daytrippin' go check some of these out. Especially Penny Red's. Delicious.
