Oakland Hills South is the golf course that has hosted numerous major tournaments throughout the years.  The course was founded in 1916 and has hosted six U.S. Opens and three PGA Championships since it first hosted the U.S. Open in 1924.  It last hosted a professional major in 2008 when it hosted the PGA Championship, won by Padraig Harrington.  It last hosted the U.S. Open in 1996, won by Steve Jones.

The club has also hosted the Ryder Cup (in 2004, won by Europe), and a pair of U.S. Men's Amateur Championships (in 2002, won by Ricky Barnes, and 2016, won by Curtis Luck).  It has also hosted a pair of U.S. Senior Opens (in 1981 and 1991, won by Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus, respectively).

The great Ben Hogan called the course "The Monster" after he won the 1951 U.S. Open at 7 over par.

Oakland Hills has been undergoing a massive renovation in recent years, as it looks to host major tournaments once again in future years.  The course had been closed for a couple of years before re-opening to its members last year.

The course is regarded by many as the most prestigious country club/golf course in the state of Michigan because of all the big tournaments it has hosted.
