If you're someone who enjoys eggs, this latest CDC Food Safety Alert may grab your attention.

There's a Salmonella outbreak linked to eggs from Milo’s Poultry Farms, and the numbers are concerning.

Alert: Eggs Sold In Michigan Making People Sick

As of now, 65 people across nine states have gotten sick from the same strain of Salmonella, and 24 have been hospitalized. Thankfully, no deaths have been reported, but this outbreak is serious enough to make you think twice before cracking open those eggs.

The bulk of the cases are coming from Wisconsin (42) and Illinois (11), but the outbreak also extends to Michigan, California, Colorado, Iowa, Minnesota, Utah, and Virginia.

The scary part?

This particular strain of Salmonella is resistant to some common antibiotics, meaning treatment could be more complicated than usual for anyone who needs it. Antibiotics like nalidixic acid and ciprofloxacin may not be as effective, so doctors may need to explore other options if the illness worsens.

This led to a recall of all eggs sold under the labels "Milo’s Poultry Farms" and "Tony’s Fresh Market" in Michigan, Illinois, and Wisconsin. It doesn’t matter what type, size, or expiration date the eggs have—they all need to go.

So what should you do if you have any of these recalled eggs? It’s simple: don’t eat them! Throw them out or return them to the store where you bought them. And don’t forget to wash any surfaces or items that came into contact with the eggs to prevent spreading the bacteria further.

Symptoms of Salmonella infection typically include diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps, usually appearing between 6 hours to 6 days after exposure. Most people recover within 4 to 7 days without needing treatment.
