One year ago, Katie Huntoon was a normal 17 year old heading into her senior year of high school, until a routine physical for school revealed a scary reality. Katie's kidneys were failing. Already reduced to 50% function, her kidneys sent her blood pressure skyrocketing. That was the first sign that something wasn't right.

Katie was diagnosed with Medullary Cystic Kidney Disease and FSGS and in May was placed on a 5 to 7 year waiting list. Today, Katie, now 18 and living in Durand, is in End Stage Renal Failure, undergoing dialysis at Fresenius in Owosso.

That's why Katie's sister, Victoria, an employee at Hungry Howie's in Durand, spent Wednesday night decorating her car, not with pictures, but, a request: "Calling All Angels...Sister In Need Of A Kidney!!!"

Victoria wasn't working Wednesday night, but when she gets back to work, she won't just be delivering pizza, she'll be delivering a message and hoping for a miracle.

Katie is A positive. Anyone wishing to become a donor is asked to call the University of Michigan Donor Hotline at (800) 333-9013, or Katie's transplant coordinator, Tammy Parcher at (734) 232-6365. You'll need Katie's name, Katie Huntoon, and birthdate, 10-10-1996. You can also contact her mother, Vandy Moses, at (517) 677-7894.

A GoFundMe page has been set up for Katie to help raise funds for medical expenses, and a fundraiser is planned for September 20th at Hickory Lounge Bar & Grill in Owosso. The event, which begins at 2pm, will feature music, raffles and food.

Katie graduated from Litchfield High School, thanks to the help of a special education teacher that visited her home twice a week after her condition worsened, forcing her to homeschool five months into the school year. Fortunately, she was able to attend the major milestone events of her senior year as well; homecoming, prom and graduation, thanks to a few perfectly-timed "good days."

Katie hopes to become a registered nurse and even completed one year of a two year high school CNA program before becoming unable to continue.

Katie plans to attend Northern as soon as health permits.
