Before I begin, this is in no way meant to scare you. As a matter of fact quite the opposite. I want you to know what to expect and that when people discuss this or talk to you about it, there is some truth to the fact that the 2nd dose might cause a more intense reaction than the first.

That's normal. It's expected. It's actually a sign that things are working the way they are supposed to.

And no matter what, you need to take both doses of your vaccine (unless you took the single dose Johnson and Johnson vaccine). And no one brand of a vaccine causes worse side effects than the other.

I had to do some digging myself because on Monday (05/12/21), I take my 2nd dose of the vaccine at MSU Pavilion. My first dose of Moderna happened on March 15th and I had little to no side effects. Sore arm was all.

However I have spoken with several people who have taken the vaccine said that after their 2nd shot, things got worse.

As a matter of fact, the CDC confirms that fact.

Side effects after your second shot may be more intense than the ones you experienced after your first shot. These side effects are normal signs that your body is building protection and should go away within a few days. (CDC)

Make sure you watch the video above and this one too.

If you're lucky, you'll get your 2nd dose of the vaccine and you'll be fine. My mother and father who are well above the 60 year old threshold said they experienced none of the side effects mentioned above or from the CDC.

However if you do and you need clarification on what you're feeling or experiencing, the CDC has help here: What to Expect after Getting A Covid-19 Vaccine

They also let you know when you need to call the doctor.

  • If the redness or tenderness where you got the shot gets worse after 24 hours

  • If your side effects are worrying you or do not seem to be going away after a few days

  • If you get a COVID-19 vaccine and you think you might be having a severe allergic reaction after leaving the vaccination site, seek immediate medical care by calling 911. Learn more about COVID-19 vaccines and rare severe allergic reactions.
