Selena Gomez’s Social Media Purge Explained
Is Selena Gomez turning over a new leaf for the better?
Earlier this week, the singer-actress raised eyebrows when she deleted photos with Kendall and Kylie Jenner at Coachella and unfollowed everyone on Instagram, including on-and-off-again boyfriend Justin Bieber and once BFF Taylor Swift. It seems that there may be an explanation for her behavior.
Both E! Online and TMZ cite sources that while at Coachella, Selena had an epiphany and realized that she needed to remove negative influences from her life. Selena reportedly attended parties filled with hard partygoers and came to the conclusion that she needed to stay away from that lifestyle. Instead, Selena is said to be reevaluating her friendships and focusing on more positive people and experiences, such as working on her music and going to church more.
This comes after what has seemingly been a stressful year for Selena so far. It was reported in January that Selena spent some time in rehab and appeared to have taken a break from Justin Bieber, who has been battling problems of his own. But the two have been caught together a few times, including at SXSW in Austin and more recently at Coachella.
In addition to her purge, Selena has also cryptically posted the lyrics to Mary J. Blige's 'Work in Progress' on Instagram, which includes lyrics about self-improvement such as "I got every material thing I could ever need / I got the love from my fans that adore me / And I'm grateful / But my love for myself is lacking a little bit / I can admit that I'm working on me."
Whatever Selena's reasons are for her recent social media activity, we do wish her luck in whatever goals she has planned for herself.
