Have you ever wondered just how much food you waste because of the "Best Before" label? That label has always confused me. If it says "Best Before", I'm going to assume that if I eat it past that day, I'm going to be in the bathroom for days. I've probably wasted so much food because of the label. Well, we might not have to worry about that eventually because "smell-by" labels are in the works.

What is a "smell-by" label? According to Good News Network, it's a new label that's being made to help people know if their food is safe to eat. Basically, it's a scratch and sniff sticker that let's you know what your food would smell like if it's no longer safe to eat. What's the point? The creator Good To Go says, "To help us all get back in touch with our common sense; trusting our senses to do their job and alert us if we’re hovering near something we shouldn’t be eating." Eventually they'll be working with retailers to get the labeling on packages.

I don't know about you, but I think it sounds like a great idea. However, I am a little hesitant. Don't get me wrong, it'll probably save me money if I know my food is still edible. But, I really don't want to scratch and sniff a milk sticker to see if my milk has gone bad. I think in this case, I might just go with the "Best Before" label because the smell of rotten milk is probably on my list of top 10 worst smells. Ya feel me?
