Where in Michigan Can You See the Perseid Meteor Shower?
Lots of stuff happening in the sky this month, we have the solar eclipse on the 21st and now the Perseid meteor shower which is happening now and will last through the later part of August.
Even though the shower runs through the month, the peak time for this year’s shower will be August 12th. The best viewing will be the early morning of August 12th or that night. There are going to be some places to watch it too, according to the Detroit Free Press, as the Michigan DNR is hosting “Meteors & S’mores” parties at several state parks that weekend.Yes there is one in the Lansing area as it will be at Island Lake Recreation Area, Saturday, Aug. 12, 8 to 11 p.m.
If you are wondering about how the sky will look during it, Space.com says the moon will be bright enough during peak viewing times to interfere with seeing some of the meteors. But, they go on to say that enough of the meteors will be big fireballs so they should be seen still in the sky full of stars and the moon.
