As you probably know by now, nobody won last Tuesday's Mega Millions jackpot of over $800 million.  (The author won $2, but I'm sure a lot of you won at least that much).

Because of that, Friday night's jackpot will grow to over $1 billion ($1.1 billion as of Thursday afternoon).

If only one person wins the multi-state lottery, the cash option (the lump sum) will be almost $650 million.  Let me say that one more time....$650 MILLION!

It is the third largest lottery jackpot in American history.  And it got me thinking about what I'd do if I won the $1 billion jackpot Friday night.

I'D TAKE THE ANNUITY, NOT THE LUMP SUM

It's easy to just take the cash and pay all the taxes up front.  And if you're an older winner (let's say 60+ years old), I can see why you'd take the lump sum.  But I'd take the annuity and put as much money away as possible.

YOU WOULD LIKELY NEVER SEE OR HEAR FROM ME AGAIN

Some of you would probably be happy with that.  But I would quit my jobs, unplug from social media and do lots of traveling.  Starting with visiting parts of the state of Michigan I haven't been to before.  I've never been into the Thumb.  And it's been a long time (20 years) since I went to Mackinac Island or the Upper Peninsula.  Then I'd visit all other states in the U.S. that I haven't been to yet (I've been in 25 states so far in my life).

TAKE CARE OF ALL PERSONAL FINANCIAL MATTERS

I would make sure my immediate family doesn't have to worry about anything financially ever again.  And I would pay for my nephew and nieces' college education.  This is a no-brainer to me.

BUY A NEW CAR AND MOVE INTO A NICER APARTMENT OR HOME

I would still live in Michigan, and probably still live in the Mid-Michigan area.  But I'd buy a brand new car (but keep my current one) and move into a much nicer apartment or a house.  I wouldn't splurge on a yacht or anything else like that.  But maybe have a getaway place in the South (during the winter), and a cottage or house up North (Michigan term).

INVEST IN CAUSES OR CHARITIES I BELIEVE IN

I wouldn't just give money away to any charity.  But it would be the ones that I believe are good and genuinely help the less fortunate in our society.  There are many as you know.

NO, I WOULDN'T BUY ANY OF THE DETROIT PRO TEAMS!

I am not that crazy or stupid to do something like that.  But if I owned the Tigers, I would fire Al Avila and A.J. Hinch.  ON THE SPOT!!!!

What would you guys do if you won this Friday's lottery?  Or any big lottery jackpot?  Let us know!!

These 8 Things Are More Than Enough To Get Al Avila Fired

What was expected to be an exciting season for the Detroit Tigers with the potential for meaningful baseball games being played in September has descended into calamity and failure. Here are a few alarming numbers and about the franchise that prove it will not make progress until it dismisses GM Al Avila.
