Pixar Reveals New Summer 2020 Movie, ‘Soul’
Exactly one year from the movie’s release date, Pixar surprised us all by revealing that it has a second movie coming to theaters in 2020. It is called Soul and is described by the studio as “a journey from the streets of New York City to the cosmic realms to discover the answers to life’s most important questions.” Sounds like pretty heavy stuff for an animated movie! Then again, this is the company that made a kids film about a dystopian future roamed by sad robots, and another kids film about an emotional teenager nearly succumbing to depression while her emotions raged and fought inside her brain. So it’s basically very on brand.
Soul will arrive in theaters just three months after Pixar’s next animated feature, Onward, which has been known about and teased for a while now. (That’s the one about two elf brothers, played by Tom Holland and Chris Pratt, on a special journey.) This movie has been basically unknown until literally right now, which makes its sudden revelation pretty exciting. Even more exciting: The film is directed by Pete Docter, who previously made Up and Inside Out.
There’s still a lot more we need to know about the movie, including who the voice cast is. Still, another original movie from Pixar is always exciting news. The studio’s latest effort, Toy Story 4, opens in theaters this weekend.
