Popular Potato Chips Sold in Michigan Recalled Over Salmonella Concern
If you're a snack lover and like to keep chips in your pantry, you may want to take a look inside of your pantry.
Which Potato Chips Are Being Recalled?
Utz Quality Foods just issued a voluntary recall for several varieties of Zapp's and Dirty brand potato chips, due to a Salmonella concern. The FDA issued a recall, as it is tied to a seasoning that included dry milk powder from California Dairies Inc. The seasoning was supplied by a third party and may have been contaminated with Salmonella. The seasoning batches reportedly tested negative before being used, but the brand Utz is using caution and pulling the product.

Why The Chips Are Being Pulled
The recalled chips were sold at retailers nationwide, which means Michigan shoppers could have them at home. The products include the following:
- Zapp’s Bayou Blackened Ranch in multiple sizes
- Zapp’s Salt and Vinegar, Zapp’s Big Cheezy
- Dirty brand Salt and Vinegar
- Maui Onion
- Sour Cream and Onion potato chips.
What Michigan Shoppers Should Look For
Many of the affected products will have a best-by date between July and August of 2026.
At this point, Utz says there have been no reported illnesses connected to the recalled chips. However, Salmonella isn't something you'd want to get either. It can cause fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, as well as stomach pain.
It can be especially serious for young kids, older adults, and those with weakened immune systems.
What To Do If You Bought These Chips
If you do have one of the recalled bags in your kitchen, you should either throw the product away, or look to get a full refund on the product. You can get any questions you may have by contacting Utz Customer Care at 1-877-423-0149, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Eastern Time.
