Mailing a Package in Michigan Now Costs More Here’s What Changed
With the cost of everything nowadays, of course, yet another service is looking to raise their prices.
The United States Postal Service (USPS) has started rolling out new price increases on several shipping services in Michigan and across the country as of January 18, 2026, meaning it is going to cost more to send packages through the post office.
What Changed on January 18, 2026
These changes are part of the USPS’s long-term “Delivering for America” plan, a 10-year effort meant to modernize operations, improve service, and put the agency on firmer financial ground while still fulfilling its mission to deliver mail and packages six days a week.
Which Services Got More Expensive
Under the new pricing, Priority Mail rates are up about 6.6%, Priority Mail Express roughly 5.1%, USPS Ground Advantage around 7.8%, and Parcel Select about 6%. These increases hit some competitive shipping categories and apply to both retail and commercial customers. The USPS typically updates prices in January and July, and this hike follows that routine schedule.

Are Forever Stamps Going Up Too
Notably, Forever stamp prices will not increase until at least July, so sending regular letters with a first-class stamp won’t get more expensive right now. The agency says it’s trying to balance the need for revenue with keeping services affordable, especially as it continues cost-cutting and network improvements.
If you mail a lot of packages, especially Priority or Ground Advantage, expect to pay a bit more starting this month. Standard letter postage holds steady for the moment, but that could change later in the year.
