MSU ended their 2022 campaign with a 35-16 loss to Penn State. It has been a season of let downs in more ways than one. The Spartans seem to have lost the edge/attitude that they used to have. What's worse? They seem to have traded it for an edge/attitude that they don't need.

The university has had plenty of bad press in the last few years. Deservedly so. They should have cleaned house and built back from nothing. They went a different route. The results have not been great. This year, the program got another black eye with the Michigan tunnel assault a few weeks back. 6 players were charged with aggravated assault and another with assault and battery. This is not the conduct becoming of top level college athletes. Or maybe it is. Maybe that is what the leadership condones. That might be MSU's biggest problem going forward.

Coach Tucker issued an apology for the fight, but many seemed to feel like it lacked some sincerity. That is not for me to say. Tucker called the behavior unacceptable, but if those young men were coached up correctly, you could argue that incident wouldn't have happened. It would not have happened if the coaching roles were reversed and MSU had that guy who wears khakis and drinks milk with steak.

Now,Tucker was awarded a $100k bonus that was supposed to be shared between coaches and support staff. He didn't share. He clearly doesn't have the team performing well enough to deserve a bonus. Barely over 500 does not constitute a good season. Tucker is one of the highest paid coaches in college sports. He pulls in 9.5 million and has a drastically underpaid staff. Why share the 100k? There was too much money spent on Tucker. Don't blame the players. When your coach is shady, what do you expect? Is Tucker the problem here? I guess it doesn't really matter. With that contract, he will be here for awhile. Sparty On!
