It’s just over a year and the coronavirus pandemic WOODTV reports that the federal government is now trying to find someone to create a mask that’s more effective comfortable and a better fit.
Oh, did I mention it also pays $500,000? Well, sorta.
It’s called the Mask Innovation Challenge: Building Tomorrow’s Mask, and is looking for designers and engineers to create a face mask that fits better, is more comfortable, and is more effective at filtering out air particles.
You don’t have a super long time to develop this new technology as the application period is open now and only stays open until April 21st. WOODTV says they’ll choose 10 winners in the first phase and those 10 will also be given $10k. Then phase two will award up to 5 winners who will split $400,000.
The competition is a partnership between BARDA DRIVe and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health. According to the official website for the challenge the purpose of the challenge is to “support the development of innovative masks that can protect Americans from respiratory pathogen‘s such as SARS-CoV-2.”
