The New York Times is reporting that the Detroit Pistons are close to hiring longtime Oklahoma City Thunder executive Troy Weaver as the team's new general manager.

The Pistons have been looking for someone to work alongside Pistons executive Ed Stefanski in the team's front office for several weeks now.  Former Pistons players Tayshaun Prince and Chauncey Billups have been mentioned as possible GM candidates.  So has former University of Michigan player and Los Angeles Clippers executive Mark Hughes.

Detroit's season is over, as they finished 20-46 and out of the playoff race.  They did not qualify for the NBA's 22-team format that the league plans to restart with in July.
