Polar Bear Cub’s First Time Playing In The Snow At Detroit Zoo
One of the polar bear cubs at the Detroit Zoo played in the snow for the first time and it is the cutest thing I've ever laid eyes on!
I showed my nephews the other day, who are three and five, and they barely even reacted to the video. I'm like, "Excuse me, there's a polar cub playing in the snow! Why are we not more excited?! She's so cute!" I just got a, "Yeah, she's cute." and then they went back to playing with their wrestlers like me and the cub didn't exist. Kids, am I right?
The Detroit Zoo welcomed two polar bear cubs November 17th, 2020. They're the first cubs to be raised at the zoo since 2004 and have been in a private maternity den. The cubs have not been named yet. Their mother, Suka, an 8-year old polar bear previously gave birth in 2018 and 2019, but lost her cubs.
The female cub isn't old enough to be moved out of the maternity den and on her own, but the Zoo let her experience her first snow. At the beginning of February, she was being cared for at the Detroit Zoo's Ruth Roby Glancy Animal Health complex. She has recently moved from the nursery to a larger space inside the health complex.
The little one has made big strides from weighing 1.2 pounds at 2 days old, to almost 20 pounds. She's no longer drinking out of a bottle and will one day weigh around 800 pounds. Zoo officials are unsure when she will be reunited with her mother and sibling.
