East Lansing Police are issuing a warning, the Lansing State Journal reports.  It's a similar warning that other area departments and officials have issued: scammers posing as the IRS are targeting mid-Michigan phones.  The caller claims that the potential victim has not paid the IRS and that if they did not pay before hanging up the phone they would be arrested.

East Lansing Police advise that the IRS does not call to demand payment over the phone and that suspected scams should be reported to police.

The Federal Trade Commission says Michigan ranked 3rd last year for fraud complaints.
