When it gets cold, we tend to seek comfort food. When you talk about comfort food, spaghetti and meatballs is typically on the list. When it comes to pasta sauce, Michiganders rate Bertolli creamy basil alfredo as their favorite.  So it is probably safe to say we can use any type of pasta as a comfort food. I mean if we are keeping things Michigan real, goulash is still a favorite pasta dish.

Pasta is quick and usually easy to make. It does, however, require a couple of pans and some attention to keep the sauce in the pan. Have you ever tried to cook the pasta directly in the sauce?  There are those who add the starchy pasta water to thicken the sauce, but why not just dump the pasta straight into the sauce? It is becoming the go to trend. I love watching Food Network from time to time, but some of what they cook is beyond what we mere mortals can whip up. Pasta is a cake walk. If you do want to try this sauce hack, there are a couple of things to remember.

1. If you have a thick sauce, it will not cook the pasta

2. You can add some beef or chicken stock to thin the sauce and cook the pasta.

I tried this last night with jarred sauce from the store. It worked pretty well. The pasta was really good and less of a mess is not a bad thing. If you don't want to cook, you are in luck. Some of the best pasta places in Michigan is here in Lansing, Howell, and Grand Rapids.
