Number of Illnesses Related to Applebee’s In Corunna Now 16, Norovirus Blamed
Testing confirmed that Norovirus was responsible for one of the reported illnesses at an Applebee’s in Corunna, MI. As of start of business day on March 18, 2016, a total of sixteen people experienced similar symptoms and have contacted the Shiawassee County Health Department.
The Shiawassee County Health Department has conducted interviews with people who visited Applebee’s during the investigation period of March 9, 2016 – March 12, 2016. The transmission source has not been identified.
Applebee’s is fully cooperating and has stated that in addition to standard sanitation practices kitchen, bathroom, and customer dining areas have been fully sanitized, since the issue was brought to their attention. No new illnesses outside the investigation period have been reported.
Norovirus is a very contagious virus that can infect anyone. Transmission occurs from an infected person, contaminated food or water, or by touching contaminated surfaces. The stomach or intestines become inflamed, leading to stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.
