A 'normal' future, might be upon us. Earlier this week, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer announced that she would drop the state's outdoor mask mandate, for those who are vaccinated. But, that doesn't yet apply to High School Athletics.

No word has come to high school athletes yet tho. The Michigan High School Athletic Association says they won't decide until they hear back from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services

“We are awaiting word on what will change,” Geoff Kimmerly, MHSAA communications director said in a text to MLive. “We don’t have the changes at this time.”

Until word changes from the MHSAA, all athletes are still required to wear a mask while competing or in practice. They are not required in events such as warm-ups or competitions according to MLive. Most spring events will be outdoors, so maskless games could be a possibility this season.

“As a rule, if they change their recommendations on things, we’re going to be open to following that,” Kimmerly said.

The MHSAA has followed most of the orders released through the MDHHS's office, so possibly allowing no face masks during games or at games, could be a possibility.
However, no yet statement has been released from the MHSAA saying face masks won't be required.
