The recall is affecting products from Wiet Peeters Farm Products, which are distributed right here in Michigan.
The recall is hitting the following products:
- Aunt Mid's Fresh Sliced Mushrooms - 227g flat blue plastic pack
- UPC 0 33383 676005
- Peeters Mushroom Farm Cremini Sliced - 227g flat blue plastic pack
- UPC 0 68414 96960 3
- Peeters Mushroom Farm Thick Slice Mushrooms - 10lb cardboard box
What Mushroom Products Are Affected?
They were all processed by the same equipment, which makes cross-contamination likely. These are the kinds of items you'd find at your local grocery stores across the state of Michigan.
There is one separate case of Needles Mushrooms, which were distributed by LLK Greenhouse and Trading Inc., and were pulled only from shelves in New York, after testing positive for Listeria.
Why Is Listeria Dangerous?
No one has been reported sick from the recall; however, Listeria is dangerous, especially for older adults, people with weakened immune systems, and pregnant women. Symptoms of Listeria include high fever, severe headaches, nausea, and even miscarriage or stillbirths in pregnant women.
What to Do If You Have These Mushrooms
If you have any of the affected product, you are being urged to throw it out or return it to the store you purchased it from for a full refund.
Listeria can put you in the hospital for days and make you sick. It is best to avoid taking a risk.
