MSU Evacuates Wells Hall After Chemical Scare During Finals
Michigan State had a pretty chaotic start to the week, with finals currently underway, it's a busy week on campus.
What Happened Inside Wells Hall
Wells Hall, which is one of the bigger academic buildings on campus, had to be evacuated on Monday morning after reports of some kind of unidentified chemical inside.
Emergency Crews Respond Quickly
The university pushed out an alert just after 11 a.m., letting everyone know to clear the building while they worked on figuring out what was going on.

The Wells building is packed with classes, lecture halls, and students almost all day long, so this was a rather big deal to take care of quickly.
Emergency crews have responded pretty quickly, including local fire officials, and the situation was treated like a possible hazmat scenario. At the time, nobody knew what the substance was, and the priority was just getting everyone out safely and securing the area.
Was the Chemical Dangerous
The good news is it doesn't sound like this turned into anything dangerous long-term. University officials later said there was no ongoing threat to the campus, and the situation was handled out of an abundance of caution while they investigated.
By the end of the day, things were under control. MSU confirmed the building would stay closed for the rest of the day on Monday, but was cleared and reopened the next morning at 7 a.m. like normal.
Still, not the best way to start your week, especially during finals.
