Beware! These Are The Top 5 Most Snake Infested Lakes In Michigan

Let's be clear here. I hate snakes.

No matter how big, small, poisonous or not poisonous, I'm not going near it. In fact, there was a snake here at work one day, and I decided that was my cue to leave. I just can't do them.

To set the record straight too, Michigan does have one poisonous snake here in the state. The Eastern Massasauga Rattlesnake, is the state's one and only poisonous snake... at least poisonous to us.

There are a few lakes around the state though, that contain a couple different kind of snakes.

5.) Long Lake - Grand Traverse County

Long Lake in Grand Traverse County, is home to a couple different breads of snakes, including garter snakes and the eastern massasauga rattlesnake... oh my!

4.) Lake Orion - Oakland County

Snakes have been seen swimming in these waters, but some sightings of the eastern massasauga rattlesnake have been seen in the area as well.

Lake Fenton - Oakland County

If you can handle garter snakes, then you should be fine and dandy in this Michigan lake.

Houghton Lake - Roscommon County

On a good note, as this is a fairly big spring break destination, no poisonous snakes have been seen roaming these waters. Just the queen snake and a couple of garter snakes.

Lake St. Clair

Lake St. Clair will have a few different breeds of snakes, swimming through them. However, your main concerns will be the garter snakes and northern water snake.
