More Sears & Kmart Stores Closing

There are even more stores that are closing this week from major retailers. Walgreens announced store closings and now Kmart & Sears are closing stores too. According to WILX, an additional 26 large-format Sears and Kmart stores will close in late October. The closures include five Kmart stores and 19 Sears locations. Two stores that will be closing are in Michigan but not in our area.

These stores are closing because the company is planning to open additional Sears Home & Life stores. Along with opening those, they also plan to open several hundred Sears Hometown stores, which mainly focus on appliances. The company that owns both have faced challenges in having productive stores, so that's the reason for most of these closures and changes. In addition, Sears Auto Centers at those locations will close in late August and liquidation sales are set to begin around Aug. 15.
