Miley Cyrus Plans to Reunite With Mike Will Made-It for New Album After Shunning Hip-Hop
This news wouldn’t be so jaw-dropping if it weren’t for the fact that Miley shunned hip-hop back in 2017 because she felt that the genre oversexualizes women.
During an interview with 95.5 PLJ, the 26-year-old pop star said she will enlist production assists from Mike Will as well as hitmaker Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt of Miike Snow for the album.
“A song that [Ronson] and I have done together is more rock driven, modern Debbie Harry or Joan Jett,” she said (via Billboard). “Then we've got songs with Mike Will that lean more hip-hop and songs with Andrew Wyatt that lean more pop/alternative. I just have kind of everything."
Miley worked with Mike Will on her 2013 album Banger, which boasts the hit single, “23.” But on subsequent albums she chose to work with other producers.
During a 2017 Billboard interview, when asked why she distanced herself from hip-hop, Miley attributed it to the misogynistic lyrics found in the genre. But she likes Kendrick Lamar, though.
[I love] that new Kendrick [Lamar] song [“Humble”]: 'Show me somethin’ natural like ass with some stretch marks,'" she explained. "I love that because it’s not 'Come sit on my dick, suck on my cock.' I can’t listen to that anymore. That’s what pushed me out of the hip-hop scene a little. It was too much 'Lamborghini, got my Rolex, got a girl on my cock'—I am so not that."
So what changed now? Why is Miley doubling back to hip-hop that she shunned nearly two years ago?
In any case, Mike Will has had a phemenonal year behind the production boards. The Creed II soundtrack is a complete knockout. From the "Mantra" (featuring Kendrick Lamar and Pharrell) to “Kill ‘Em With Success" (featuring 2 Chainz, ScHoolboy Q and Eearz), the album will give you that fighting spirit to win in life.
