Mid-Michigan Utilities Prepare For High Winds Amidst Outbreak

With a storm system coming into Mid-Michigan Monday packing sustained winds of 25 to 30 miles per hour, and wind gusts up to 50 to 55 miles per hour, power outages are a possible by-product. Not that anytime is a good time to be without electricity, but with Michigan residents under an emergency order to stay home, a lack of power could be even more of an inconvenience than usual.

The good news is, despite the coronavirus outbreak, local utility companies seem to be as prepared to respond to outages as they normally would, and, maybe even more so. There is heightened awareness among at least two area companies to keep their workers and customers safe with social distancing practices and reminders.

A report from The Detroit News states that DTE Energy officials are expecting what is described as "significant" outages, and will respond to them as they normally would. DTE Energy also is asking any affected customers to remember to practice social distancing and not approach workers as they respond.

Another report from MLIve.com reflects similar messages from Consumers Energy, whose workers also are preared to respond as normal, and are reminding customers and workers alike to adhere to social distancing guidelines.
