Michigan Woman Opens Beauty Salon At Twenty Years Old
This last year and a half has taught us a lot. One thing that it's taught me is that if you're given the chance to follow your dreams, take the leap.
That's what 20-year old Carissa Gorrell did. She graduated from Columbia Central High School two years ago and already owns her own business.
Gorrell followed her dreams and opened her Brooklyn salon, Radiant Reflections, in March. She told Fox 47 that she's always had a passion for the beauty industry but wanted to be on the business side of things.
I didn’t want to specifically be hands-on doing hair so when I got the opportunity to own and operate a salon, I never looked back.
After spending a semester at Spring Arbor University studying criminal justice, Gorrell decided to change things up and started working on turning her dream into a reality.
She says starting your own business looks a lot easier than is it, but she's able to get by with the help of her accountants and her mom who owns the business next door.
Radiant Reflections is open Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturdays 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Sundays 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

There's nothing I love more than seeing a young woman chase her dreams.
Are you currently working a job you hate? Do you have something you're extremely passionate about but you're afraid to make a change?
Whenever I find myself at a crossroads, I remind myself that life is short. We don't know how much time we have on earth, so why would we spend a majority of our time doing something we can't stand?
You know what they say, "When one door closes, another one opens."
