August 9th marks the 75th birthday of Smokey Bear and the Michigan DNR, the U.S. Forest Service and the Bureau of Indian Affairs is throwing him a party. The party takes place tomorrow in Straits State Park in St. Ignace (just across the Bridge and right before you hit "downtown" St. Ignace) According to WILX-TV, the "family-friendly" party is scheduled from 1 to 3 PM. It will feature a fire truck, displays of fire equipment, fire-prevention games (whatever those may be), refreshments and you can meet Smokey Bear himself.

Yep - they're pulling him away from playing pickleball with his buddies Yogi and Fozzie and his girlfriends at the senior center and squeezing him back in those pants and that hat. Should be a good time. After the party, I bet he gets on the ferry and hits the Pink Pony over on Mackinac Island. That might not be so "family-friendly." (You think he ever orders those drinks they light on fire?)

Can't wait to see him on the ferry ride back to St. Ignace, when he's letting all the ladies wear his hat and yelling, "Only YOU can prevent forest fires!"
