On May 30th, 2025, the Meridian Township Police were sent to the Meridian Mall in Okemos after multiple reports of gun fire at around 1:25 p.m. near the parking lot out front of Dick's Sporting Goods. Two people had been hit by gunfire by the time officers had arrived. The two injured were transported to hospitals for treatment. Witnesses on site reported seeing several people flee the scene before the authorities arrived.

Timeline of the Shooting

The two who were shot helped law enforcement identify those involved. At the time of the shooting, no suspect was in custody at the time of the event. Law enforcement believed the following two vehicles were involved in the incident.

Suspect Vehicle Descriptions

  • A burgundy-colored sedan, possibly a Chrysler 300 or a Toyota Camry, featuring dark-tinted windows and dark rims.
  • A black sedan, possibly a Chevrolet Malibu, also with tinted windows.

Arrest & Investigative Details

Anyone who may have information about the shooting is urged to call the Meridian Township Police. One arrest has been made at this time by local authorities of a 19-year-old Lansing woman, who was connected to the shooting. No identity or any charges have been released to the public at this time.

The mall had remained open during the investigation, however, the parking lot, espeacilly near the Food Court, and Dick's Sporting Good, was closed off to the public as law enforcment gathered information. Police in the area said that there was no active threat to the public after the shooting, allowing the mall to stay open.
