It's the dreaded words, mayflies are back.

When Are Mayflies Coming to Michigan?

Warmer temperatures around Lake Erie and the other Great Lakes waters, are slowly creeping up past 68 degrees, which in turn is getting the mayfly's up and ready to wreck havoc on your life. The mayfly's are expected to hit us the hardest here in Michigan around June 15th-22nd.

Before we all freak out though, seeing mayflies here in the state of Michigan, is actually a really good thing. No, really they are.

Why Are Mayflies Swarming the Great Lakes?

Mayflies here in a state where we have so many fresh water sources is great. Mayflies signify a healthy and clean lake. Now, the bad part of course, is that they stick around and bug you, but for about a day before they disappear. The good news, is they don't bite or sting either.

While they may be a nuisance to see year after a year, it's also a good sign. Just avoid driving under streetlights at night to keep them away from you and your cars. If they're on your patio, just grab the hose and spray them off, it's a good way to get rid of them if they're truly bugging you.
