Alert: Major Vehicle Factory Announces Massive Layoffs
Heartland Recreational Vehicles, which is a subsidiary of Thor Industries, just announced they would be closing their Michigan based plant in Sturgis, Michigan on June 20, 2025.
The plant was opened back in 2023, so the closure is coming not even a full two years after it opened. The factory was apart of a $35.9 million investment by state grants. The plant could produce up to 5,000 RV's annually, but the company announced that closing this specific location was a 'business necessity'. There is no other words on the closure of this plant.

With this, Thor Industries, which is apart of the layoffs at other Heartland RV facilities at two Indiana based locations, announced they were doing restructuring within the company. Over 500 different workers and employees are set to be laid off with the multiple location shut down.
Ironically, even with the layoffs happening, there is a reported increase in RV shipments over the course of the past year. With that said, Thor Industries said that they are trying to restructure to improve their operational efficiency, as well as their customer service.
There will be no severance packages for any of the employees affected by the layoff, nor any transfer opportunities to other facilities.
