Are you ready for some fun, virtual style? A well known Lansing tradition is going remote this year.

Over the years, we've been able to go to Silver Bells in the City in downtown Lansing featuring everything, from the Electric Light Parade, the lighting of Michigan's Christmas Tree, to watching fireworks over the State Capitol.

This year due to COVID-19, there won't be thousands of people in downtown Lansing, but Silver Bells in the City will be broadcast Friday (Nov. 20) on televisions throughout Michigan.

According to the Lansing State Journal, the virtual event, presented by Lansing's Board of Water & Light, will include televised fireworks, singalongs, celebrity shout outs and the annual lighting of Michigan's Christmas tree at the Capitol.

Silver Bells Home Edition will be broadcast from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Fox 47.

I am so looking forward to watching Silver Bells Home Edition, my wife and I can pop some popcorn, drink hot chocolate and celebrate a Lansing holiday tradition virtual style.

By the way, children were invited earlier this month to submit letters to Santa, which might be read during the broadcast, and viewers of all ages were asked to send photos in categories, including ugly sweaters and matching holiday pajamas. (LSJ)

Mindy Biladeau of the Lansing entertainment and Public Facilities Authority said, for most people, Silver Bells is the start of the holiday season each year, we hope to bring some joy, hope and comfort into the homes of thousands of residents. (LSJ)
