Lansing’s Potter Park Zoo Expecting Baby Red Pandas
As far back as I can remember, that's how long I've been going to Potter Park Zoo right here in the Lansing area.
Potter Park Zoo is definitely one of the oldest zoo's in the mid-Michigan area.
I've seen just about every animal you can imagine at Potter Park Zoo. I'm talking about monkeys, lions, tigers, rhinos, otters, exotic birds, goats, deer, zebras, eagles, giant tortoises, and so many others.
And now for the great news, Potter Park Zoo is about to add a new member or members to the animal kingdom. Potter Park Zoo is getting beautiful baby red pandas. How cool is this? Kids are going to fall in love with these red pandas.
According to the Lansing State Journal:
Fewer than 220 red pandas are living at AZA-accredited zoos in the U.S., and less than 2,500 are believed to remain in the wild, zoo officials said. The species lives in the same high altitude forests in Asia that are home to the giant panda.
We all look forward to visiting Potter Park Zoo after these red pandas are born and we all appreciate what a wonderful job the zoo has been doing for so many years in the Lansing area.
On a side note:
I remember going to the Potter Park Zoo several years ago and having a running race against two huge rhinos. I ran on the outside of their enclosure and they ran on the inside. Every time I started to run, the rhinos started to run, it was hilarious. By the way, the rhinos won!
