FDA Issues Recall for Ice Cream Bars Sold in Michigan
If you're looking for some ice cream to enjoy after work, or even before work, you may want to check your freezer first. There's an active recall on a popular item sold by Jeni's that could be dangerous to you and others.
What Jeni’s Ice Cream Is Being Recalled
The FDA announced a warning regarding Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams, which has voluntarily recalled one batch of its Passion Fruit Dreamsicle Ice Cream Bars because they could contain wheat or soy that were undeclared on the label. The issue started when a crunch topping from another product, which does include wheat and soy, was accidentally mixed into this batch during manufacturing.
How to Tell If Your Bars Are Affected
If you think it may be in your freezer, here is what to look for:
- Brand: Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams
- Product: Passion Fruit Dreamsicle Ice Cream Bars
- Batch Code: 25-210
While it may seem like another annoying recall that may mean nothing to you, it could be serious for someone with a wheat or soy allergy, especially if they don’t realize what they’re eating.
Reactions can range from hives and congestion all the way to trouble breathing and anaphylaxis, which is life-threatening and requires immediate medical attention.
What To Do If You Bought These Bars
If you do have this in your freezer, you should not eat it. Toss it or bring it back to the store where you purchased it for a refund. Jeni's says no illnesses have been reported so far, and the company is pulling the product out of an abundance of caution to help keep customers safe.
