J Dilla To Honored With A Street In Detroit

For the love of J Dilla!

After celebrating his posthumous 50th birthday this year, there is another major honor that is coming Dilla's way!

On Tuesday, October 22nd, the late producer was announced as one of five historical Detroiters who will receive their street in their honor.

Dilla will be receiving his honorary street sign at the intersection of Nevada and Charest Streets.

This street holds a special place for Dilla and his family since this intersection is near his family's home where he recorded the hits we know and love in his basement studio.

Besides J Dilla, four other legendary Detroiters will be honored as well.

Fiddler's name may sound familiar to you since he is a former member of Parliament-Funkadelic.

Amp and Parliament-Funkadelic were early mentors for Dilla. They introduced him to the MPC drum machine and his collaborator Q-Tip.

These 5 Detroiters were selected by a council submitted by petitioners and reviewed by the Historic Designation Advisory Board.

City Council President, Mary Sheffield shared that, "everyone here that was recommended is notable, is honorable, has done great things for our city, and we appreciate that this is very difficult for us to only select five."
