ALERT: CDC Warns About These Popular Fruits In Michigan
Before you head to the grocery store, please be on alert about certain fruits.
The Centers for Disease Control has put out a food safety alert that is linked to several fruits nationwide.
What fruits are being recalled?
The Centers for Disease Control Warn About Fruits
On November 17th, the CDC announced that the HMC Group Marketing, Inc., is voluntarily recalling peaches, plums, and nectarines that are sold in stores between May 1st and November 15th, 2022, and between May 1st and November 15th, 2023.
According to the company's press release,
"This recall includes only conventionally grown fruit – no organic fruit is being recalled. Peaches, plums, and nectarines currently available for sale at retail stores are not included in this recall."
What Particular Fruits Are Being Recalled?
The New York Post shared the following information about the recalled fruit.
"The recalled fruit involves two-pound bags branded “HMC Farms” or “Signature Farms”, according to the CDC. It also includes individual fruit with a sticker that has “USA-E-U” and a number:"
- Yellow peach: 4044 or 4038
- White peach: 4401
- Yellow nectarine: 4036 or 4378
- White nectarine: 3035
- Red plum: 4042
- Black plum: 4040
All of this is being linked to a listeria outbreak
Listeria can affect people in different ways and can take up to two months to detect.
What Should You Do?
The CDC recommends that you do the following things when it comes to these fruits.
- Do not eat any recalled peaches, plums, and/or nectarines.
- Immediately throw away or return the fruits to the store
- Clean your refrigerator, containers, and surfaces that the recalled fruit may have touched.
- Call a healthcare provider right away if you have any symptoms
- If you are pregnant, you can experience fevers, muscle aches, and tiredness.
- If you are not pregnant, you can experience fevers, muscle aches, tiredness, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, or seizures.
