Choosing a baby's name is one of the first big decisions parents face, and it’s not always an easy one. Between family traditions, favorite names, and the desire for something unique, the pressure can be overwhelming. Parents often ask themselves: Should we go for a timeless classic or something modern and distinctive?

Each year in America, approximately 3.6 million babies are born. Millions of parents are making this important decision, many of whom look to these popular name lists for guidance. To help navigate this choice, many turn to popular naming trends. The Social Security Administration (SSA) has just released its annual list of the top baby names in each state, offering insight into what names are capturing hearts across the country.

SSA gathered the top 100 baby names for each boys and girls in each state. Those 100 names were the most frequently given names for male and female births in 2023 in Michigan. The source was a 100% sample based on Social Security card application data according to SSA.

What Are the Most Popular Baby Names in Michigan?

Michigan parents seem to be leaning on more traditional and classic names for their new bundle of joys. Noah, which means both "rest" and "motion" according to The Bump, was the top pick for boys in the Great Lake State. For girls, the name Charlotte, popular amongst nobility and royalty, meaning "free woman", was the top choice for Michigan parents.

SSA reports the most popular names overall in America for the fifth consecutive year were Olivia and Liam. Olivia was queen in 18 states, and Liam held the crown in 22 states across the U.S. You can view the entire list of the 'Top 100 Baby Names in Each State' here.
