For decades, the Shepler name has been synonymous with summer in Michigan, evoking images of sun-drenched days and beautiful memories on Mackinac Island. Now, we heavy hearts we learn the man who was the Captain of 'making memories' for so many of us has passed away.

Shepler's Mackinac Island Ferry shared the news on social media that Bill Shepler, the co-founder and Captain of Shepler's Mackinac Island Ferry had passed away. Shepler, whose father Capt. William Shepler started the company in 1945, was 92 years old. There has been no word at this time on the cause of death.

"Bill's dedication and passion for connecting people to the beauty of Mackinac Island created unforgettable memories for countless guests," the company said in a statement on Facebook. "His legacy of service, leadership, and community spirit will forever be a part of our lives."

In 2022 the Shepler family is handed over the helm of their legendary ferry business after spending 77 years shuttling vacationers to and from Michigan's Mackinac Island. The family announced then that Jerri and David Hoffmann, of the Hoffmann Family of Companies, would become majority owners of the company.

The new owners have kept everything the same since then with the legacy intact mostly since the Shepler family remained partial owners and stayed involved in the day-to-day operations.
