Chalk it up to pure creativity because this student went big with the rumor mill all to get out of taking a test. Forget the ole, "The dog ate my homework" ploy, today's kids call on the whole universe to get out of school work, even if it is a bit far-fetched.

Reports spread quickly recently that Hemlock Public Schools were being invaded by aliens. Social media "reports" came complete with eyewitnesses reporting extraterrestrial beings coming down from the skies and flying saucers landing on the playground.

Now, you can rest easy knowing that hysterics didn't ensue as they did back in 1938 after the famous Orson Wells radio broadcast of The War of the Worlds. That Halloween broadcast caused panic and chaos among listeners who thought the broadcast was truly an alien invasion.

This 2023 "invasion" was nothing more than the work of one student who wasn't thrilled about taking a math test. As the story spread on social media, Hemlock Schools Superintendent Don Killingbeck was quick to assure students and parents there was nothing to worry about and that E.T. wasn't hanging out at the playground.

“We have thoroughly investigated the situation, and there is no evidence of any alien activity on our school grounds,” Killingbeck said. “We take all rumors seriously, but we also urge our community to be cautious when spreading information that has not been verified.”

Killingbeck went on to say the creative student responsible for starting the rumor was disciplined and the school district has taken steps to educate students on the importance of verifying information before sharing it with the world.

There was no word on whether the student had to take the math test or not, but we are pretty sure he got an "A" for originality.
