Could You Be Big Lug? Lansing Lugnuts are Searching for a New Mascot
Do you think you have what it takes to be the next Big Lug?
The Lansing Lugnuts Are Hiring a New Big Lug
The Lansing Lugnuts are officially hiring someone to be the person behind the purple dinosaur uniform.
It takes a certain kind of person to be a mascot, both personality wise and physicality.
These are literal and metaphorical big shoes that need to be filled, and you need to be able to interact well with kids and fans of all ages and abilities; you must be energetic; and you must love having fun.
Big Lug Job Requirements
Here are some of the requirements for the position:
- Flexible schedule, including Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays
- Varying hours between 8:30 am and 11 pm
- Must be between 5' 9" - 6'1" in height (due to the costume size)
- Sustain long periods of time in the heat (it gets hot inside that costume)
- Split games and appearances with another mascot performer
While experience is not required, it's certainly helpful for the role and potential income, as the hourly rate will be based on experience.

If you exuberate boundless energy; if you're supremely outgoing; if you're beyond enthusiastic, then this might be the job for you. You can find the application HERE.
One very important question you must answer is, "What is your favorite dance move?"
When the New Mascot Will Start
The start date for the position is listed as late March, so it looks like the Lugnuts are looking to fill the roll before the start of the season, which is on Thursday, April 2.
I have a feeling Big Lug might be busy this year, as the Lansing Lugnuts are celebrating 30 years of baseball. Get ready for a fun 2026 season!
