Here’s What’s Going on With Lansing’s Curfew for Minors

As it turns out, Lansing has had a curfew on the books for some time, but it's now that they're going to start enforcing it.

At the end of May, Lansing saw a mass shooting that left one teen dead and injured six others. It's this event that lead to Mayor Andy Schor announcing an enforcement of Lansing's curfew.

Here's how Lansing's curfew stands when it comes to minors; children 12 years old or younger have to be off the street between the hours of 10 pm and 6 am, and kids 13 - 16 years old have to be off the street by midnight.

Of course, there are exceptions to all rules, being with a parent or guardian is one of them. Or you could be "returning home from a school, religious, work or volunteer activity."

How is Lansing Enforcing a Curfew for Minors?

At this time, there's no word on just how Mayor Andy Schor or the Lansing Police Department plan to enforce Lansing's curfew. The Lansing State Journal reports that in August of 2023, "Schor and police Chief Ellery Sosebee at that time expressed little enthusiasm for enforcing the curfew as a way to take youths off the streets at night." Additionally, they mentioned that there just weren't enough resources to enforce a curfew. But, there's no word as to what's changed to make that possible now.
