South Lansing Neighborhood Ice Cream Shop Lost in Devastating Fire
A South Lansing business experienced a devastating blaze.
Fire Destroys South Lansing Business
Unfortunately, Frosty Korner ice cream shop in South Lansing has been destroyed by a fire. The fire began just before 11 o'clock Monday night, on November 17, at the corner of South MLK Blvd and West Barnes Ave.
Thankfully, this time of year, Frosty Korner is closed for the season. No one was inside the building when the fire began and no one was harmed.
How the Fire Started
Fire officials say that the fire began with an underground natural gas leak. In fact, to access the source of the leak and put out the flames, firefighters had to call in an excavator to dig below grade.

As far as the building being salvaged, Lansing Fire Chief Brian Sturdivant said that it appears to be a total loss. And at this time, Google lists the business as permanently closed.
At this time, it's also unclear what may have ignited the gas leak to cause the fire. The cause is still under investigation at this time.
History of Frosty Korner
Frosty Korner had been a neighborhood favorite for many years before it closed during the COVID-19 Pandemic. The ice cream shop only reopened in 2024, so it's especially sad to see the business suffer another devastating setback.

News crews were on the scene when first responders were battling the flames. You can see the damage in the video below.
