There are so many reasons to plan a vacation in Michigan this summer.

Why Mackinac Island’s Lilac Festival Is So Famous

Known for being car-free and home to some of the best fudge in the world, Mackinac Island is also known for its annual lilac festival.

2026 will mark the 78th annual festival, and this year's theme is "Stop and Smell the Lilacs". This is a 10-day festival that features gorgeous shades of purple and white. They will be in bloom all over the island, with the highest concentration found in Marquette Park.

Events Happening During the 2026 Lilac Festival

Throughout the week-and-a-half festival, there are numerous events:

  • walking tours
  • art tours
  • Lilac Festival Coronation
  • 10K Run & Walk
  • seminars
  • nightlife
  • movies
  • family-friendly playgrounds and activities
  • cornhole tournament
