East Lansing Business is Saying Goodbye After Almost 40 Years
It's always sad to hear of a business closing, particularly one that has been a part of our community and culture for so long. And sadly, that is exactly what is happening in East Lansing once again.
This business in particular has been around for quite a while, and sadly, we'll have to say goodbye to them in just a few weeks.
According to the Lansing State Journal, the Archives Book Shop in East Lansing is permanently closing.
The Archives Book Shop in East Lansing is Closing
The owner, Ray Walsh, says the reason for the closure is due to decreases in people and sales;
Our customer base is shrinking, they're passing away, and we're getting significantly fewer people coming in
Walsh first opened the Archives Book Shop back in 1987... 37 years ago, making it a huge part of East Lansing's history. Now, Archives will be closing at the end of this month (February 2024).

Walsh also owns the Curious Book Shop in East Lansing, located further east along Grand River Avenue. That store, which he started "more than a half-century ago after buying about 1,000 paperbacks from a professor while he was an MSU student," will remain open. You'll be able to visit in person, on Facebook, or on Etsy.
