Been waiting for an excuse to try someplace new around Lansing?

Well, winner, winner... chicken dinner.

Or fish. Or brisket. Or pretty much anything you could want.

What Is 517 Community Restaurant Week?

517 Community Restaurant Week runs October 1-7, giving us a chance to show some love to locally owned restaurants while maybe finally trying that place you've been saying you need to check out. Participating restaurants are offering special $7 dishes, with some also featuring $17 meals and $5 drinks.

There's a ton to choose from! Here are seven that I can't wait to try.

Sea Leveaux

Sea Leveaux downtown has your choice of lobster bisque or Gumbalya in a bread cone for $7.

How wild is this? You eat the soup and the bowl?! All right, Sea Leveaux... you've got my attention.

Bento Kitchen Cravings

For $7 during Restaurant Week, you get to pick chicken, bulgogi, birria, chashu, fried shrimp or tofu, then pile on purple rice, guac, pico and Korean sauces.

Capital City BBQ

Capital City BBQ on West Saginaw and MLK has an interesting $7 dish. It's called Steer Clear, and features smoked brisket with red onion jam, smoked gouda and bourbon BBQ sauce, plus fries, for just $7 during 517 Community Restaurant Week.

How about deconstructed kabobs? Here's a cool $17 dinner deal at Summerlands Brewing Company in Holt.

This dish features your choice of grilled chicken or shrimp, veggies and pineapple over cilantro-lime rice, plus salad and garlic bread.

The Irish Pub

I'm a regular at The Irish Pub on West Saginaw, and I'm happy to see them participating with 517 Community Restaurant Week.

They're doing fresh haddock and chips for $17, or Reuben egg rolls for $7.

The Cosmos

You'll find a couple specials this week at The Cosmos (corner of E. César Chávez and Larch in Lansing).

They've got a $17 chicken parm meal with fried chicken, mozzarella and linguine. You can also order some truffle Parmesan duck-fat fries if you're just looking to snack.

King Ocean Crab

I'm a sucker for a good shrimp boil, and King Ocean Crab on E. Miller Rd. near S. Cedar has one for $17 during 517 Community Restaurant Week.

The special features half a pound of shrimp with sausage or mussels, eggs, potatoes and corn. Garlic butter is one of the sauce options, so you already know my order.
