On December 18, 2003, a resident of Horton in Jackson County saw what he referred to as an “incredibly brilliant white light” hovering over the hill above Mud Lake near his home.

On December 28 a large circle was found on the icy surface of Mud Lake, making locals wondering if the bright light they witnessed was related to the ice circle. The “cove” part of the lake where the circle appeared has been dubbed the “Devil’s Hollow”, thanks to other lights that have been seen there.

The same resident who saw the bright light that December has repeatedly seen other large, orange spheres in the area, that have an approximate diameter of 25-feet floating in the sky. The spheres hover in the air, then take off down a hill not far from his home.

The circle anomaly was made of clear inch-thick ice, about thirty feet in diameter. According to earthfiles.com, “The clear center circle was surrounded by a whitish-grey ring of thicker ice about four to five inches deep.....The three sections of the ice circle measured sixty-two feet east to west and sixty-four feet north to south.”

Guesses as to what caused it?
“Formed by a spring that would cause some vertical movement of the water” or maybe it’s “an area where a muskrat had pushed through and muskrats tend to do this when the ice is very thin.”

Supernatural and alien theorists have their own possibilities. But I think you can surmise what they are. That is a plausible explanation, as the ice circle appeared after the bright white light was seen. Plus, investigators claim the column of light that the sphere exuded had the same diameter of the ice circle.

It has been over 20 years now since this event, with no definitive conclusion. Caused by nature? Aliens? Or pranksters? The jury will probably remain out for a long time. You can read more about it HERE.
