As the title says, this is Michigan’s Oldest, Still-Operating Drive-In Theater: the Hi-Way Drive-in in Carsonville in Sanilac County.

The Hi-Way opened in 1947 (other sites say 1948) at 2778 E. Sanilac.

The Hi Way was owned by C. H. “Torchy” Clements until 1968 when he sold it to Stanley Fetting, who ran it with his son. They in turn sold it in 1997 to Steve Kurzinsky. The theater is way out in the boonies, a ways west out of town, with the skinny Black River just a stone’s throw away.

The theater fits 360 vehicles, and sound is provided through your car’s FM radio...

Another good perk is the lack of city lights, making the movie-watching experience that much more enjoyable. Load up the munchies and maybe a few blankets and prepare for a double-feature with some good flicks. Of course, drive-ins aren’t always for watching the movies...

The theater is also home to the Woodkey and Chase ‘n Daisies music festivals; the Hi-Way is open six days a week, closed on Mondays...
