Michigan Woman Sues Monster Energy Over Dead Mouse
Well, this is horrible if true: A woman from Grand Rapids, Michigan, is taking Monster Energy to court because she claims her drink came with unwanted extra protein—in the form of a dead rodent at the bottom of the can. Aside from the obvious, this is especially alarming as I start each day with the life-giving liquid that contains 160 mg of caffeine and some taurine—and hopefully, no dead animals.

The Detroit News reports McKenzie Cain bought her Monster at a bagel shop in Grand Rapids in April of 2024. She said it felt 'a little heavy,' but didn't give it much thought until she polished off her drink and BOOM—dead mouse.
Legal Claims: Negligence & Emotional Harm
Her lawyer, Zachary Runyan, sums up his case perfectly in 11 words:
No one should ever find a dead animal in their drink.
Hollywood Unlocked reports that Runyan alleges that Monster Energy is at fault due to negligence in ensuring his client's safety. He also claims his client suffered emotional distress, physical illness, and trauma as a result of finding Mickey's (or, likely after all that caffeine, Mighty Mouse) lifeless body at the bottom of a can.
Having never worked in a beverage plant, I can't speak to the conditions, but I do know that accidents happen everywhere. That said, I'm not sure that I wouldn't seek some type of compensation were I to find anything other than the bottom of a can.

Case Moves to Federal Court
The case was filed in Grand Rapids before being transferred to a federal court earlier this month. True or not, one thing is for sure: if you're drink feels heavier than usual, maybe grab a different one and let the clerk know. Better safe than sorry.
