Michigan’s Most Mispronounced Word Is Totally Delicious
For a country that invented autocorrect, we can’t even pronounce half of our own words. Michigan residents and people across America often head to Google to learn the proper way to pronounce even the most common words (Worcestershire, anyone?). Thanks to Unscramblerer.com (the folks who have been helping you cheat at Words With Friends for years) and their in-depth study of each state's hardest-to-say words, we now know the one that gives Michigan the most fits. But it's good to know we aren't alone.
Why We Google Pronunciations in Michigan
According to the study, Hawaii’s most-searched “how to pronounce” word is Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia (the fear of long words). For Texans, it's staphylococcal, New Mexico can't say 'gif' (let the hard G or soft G war continue), and in Massachusetts, it's "Jhostynxon Garcia," because apparently names are the new boss level of pronunciation.
It's Foods That Trip Up Michiganders
For Michigan residents, it shouldn't be surprising that our most difficult-to-pronounce word is a food —and no, it's not "Mackinac Fudge" or "Pasti," though the latter is often said wrong. Michigan's most-searched pronunciation is Paczki (POONCH-kee). Thankfully, this is a word we use only for a brief window close to Fat Tuesday, when we are shoveling down those jelly- and custard-filled pastries before Lent.

And while Paczki may be hard to say, they're easy to eat, especially with a tube full of Rolaids nearby. No matter how you say it, the biggest debate revolving around Paczkis in Michigan isn't how to say it; it's what's inside and whether or not they should be coated in powdered sugar.
