Don’t Be Fooled: 11 Michigan Dollar Store Do NOT Buys

While I'm not doing my weekly shopping there, I definitely lean on dollar stores for a lot of quick trips. And why not? First off, they are EVERYWHERE in Michigan! Think about where you live and the distance between you and a dollar store. Again, EVERYWHERE. But just because you can't miss 'em doesn't mean that they're jammed-packed with bargains. While there are plenty of savings to be had, my fellow frugal Michigander, there are also some items you should never buy at a dollar store.

Michigan Residents Love a Great Bargain, and Dollar Stores Know It

Like you, I'm shocked every time I go shopping and realize how drastically prices have risen in the last few years. According to Yahoo Finance, the price of eggs is up 54% from 2020. A box of cereal that cost $4 is now an over $5 box of Captain Crunch. Meanwhile, the generic version, Corporal Crack, is only $3 at the dollar store. Why not save a few bucks?

Well, what you don't know about the off-brand Captain Crunch is that it has less respect for the rough of your mouth than the ol' Captain himself. I don't recommend it, and neither does your dentist.

Every once in a while, while wandering up and down the aisles of one of my favorite one-buck Chuck stores, I need to remind myself that cheap doesn't mean quality.
